BIOGRAPHY

Javier Calvo starts his career in 1990. He has worked as a Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Colorist and Editor in numerous projects: short films, commercials, TV series, music videos and documentaries. He has experience with the classical film formats (35mm and 16mm), and with the new digital film formats. In television he works for 19 years at Televisión Española and Telemadrid as a camera operator and editor.

He begins to study Photography, and Image and Sound in 1984 at the age of fourteen. In 1987 he enters in the Instituto RTVE where he shoots on 16mm for three years, and gets a MFA in Image and Sound. He starts Philosophy and gets a BA + MA Degree in Communiation Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid.

In 1997 he joins the ECAM, the Madrid Film School, where he graduates with a MFA in Cinematography, studying also the first year of Editing. In the ECAM he makes ​​numerous short films on 35mm.

He completes The Kodak Cinematography Workshop specialized in 35mm cinematography with american Director of Photography Gregory Hudson. His training is complemented by various courses: Producing, Screenwriting, CGI and Digital Television.

In 2007 he travels to the United States to attend the cinematography workshop Feature Film Lighting with a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Spain. The course’s instructor, James Plannette, is a reputed gaffer from the Hollywood industry with films like Braveheart, E.T., Magnolia, Traffic, The Road, Ocean's Eleven and The Artist, among others.
